Chong Lim
Chong was born in Malaysia. His parents suggested that he learn a musical instrument while growing up and he is glad that they persuaded him to study hard and acquire a qualification. The combination of his talent on the piano and his mechanical engineering nouse paved the way for a long music career. In 1977 he moved to Australia to study Mechanical Engineering, but having completed the course decided his heart was really in music.
After meeting David Hobson (now a successful opera singer) and James Valentine (currently ABC radio announcer) at university, Lim formed a band with the two and so began his career in music.
He joined the John Farnham Band in 1994, and is John's Musical Director. Chong works as a producer, musical director, arranger, keyboard player, sound programmer and composer. He is one of Australia's most experienced musicians.
Chong has also worked with Olivia Newton-John, Tina Arena, Merril Bainbridge, Boz Scaggs, Jermaine Jackson, Deni Hines, Marina Prior, Rick Price and Christine Anu. He was involved in both the opening and closing ceremonies of Sydney 2000 and he was musical director and composer for the Handover Ceremony of the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games. He composed music for the movie 'Wilde Girls'. Chong performs with and produces albums for Nikki Webster. He was Musical Director for Channel Seven's Dancing With The Stars
and Musical Director for Rolling Thunder Vietnam.
