We (Maree and Sue) are two of Johns' 'oldest' fans. These days we are proud to be called friends.
We've been a part of the fan club as it has been in one form or another from the time it was run by AMBO, Johns' original management (a one page photocopied newsletter) through to the forerunner of the club as it is today (a bi-annual glossy newsletter).
Being quite young when Sadie was released we had to rely on our parents to drive us to gigs, but, with age comes independence and we haven't missed many, either here in Victoria or interstate since. We were there when John made his LRB debut and we were there when he made a triumphant return to performing with 'You're the Voice' at a Melbourne nightclub - The Grainstore. When the blockbuster concert tour commenced,
after the phenomenal success of Whispering Jack, there we were at the Melbourne Concert Hall sitting backstage with 'The Voice' waiting for the papers and the inevitable reviews that can either make or break an artist. When those papers arrived and the reviews were favourable
(why wouldn't they be) we cried tears of happiness and relief together.
